Praid salt mine or Salina Praid is a rock salt mine in Romania, located in Harghita county. The salt mine is situated in the basin of Gurghiu mountains, between the Salt Hill, part ofthe triangle mine Praid-Ocna de Jos-Ocna de Sus. Praid salt mine is one of the largest salt mine in Romania and in Europe, and the area dates since the Roman times. Praid salt mine is located 5 km away from Sovata resort. Following massive salt extractions there were formed large underground voids and appeared a saline micro-climate, with a constant temperature between 14 and 16°C. The air is strongly ionized, extremely efficient in healing respiratory diseases. In 1960’ in Gh. Doja mine began the underground treatment by setting up underground sanatoriums.
